Capturing Story in Watercolor Portraits with Jackie Dorsey

Tuesday, November 18 at 7pm

For the last decade, Jackie has been working on an exhibition honoring Georgia’s Legendary Musicians.  The original exhibition took place from June 8-August 31, 2023 at the Lyndon House Arts Center in Athens.  Now touring, an expanded exhibition with new originals will be on display at the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art from September 26-December 13, 2026.  In this lecture, Jackie will give a sneak peek to this exhibition and share her strategies for obtaining photo references and for translating the musician’s personality into the final paintings.

In her musician series, Jackie’s goal is to channel and honor the musician’s story. In other paintings, Jackie focuses on creating paintings to channel her own stories and concerns.  These convey political and environmental concerns along with her reflections on aging and her own mortality.  Jackie will share her process, planning, and techniques for creating these paintings as well as share practical tips and tools for creating the initial photo reference and concept.
