SUMMARY:Features to Faces Workshop with Sandra Sanchez
DESCRIPTION:\nPSA is happy to Welcome back Sandra Sanchez for a 4-Day – April 11-14, 2025.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Workshop:\n\n\n\nIn this four day workshop, Sandra will guide students as they study the key features of the portrait individually. The first two days you will practice the unique structure of the different features, and how both features and general structures relate to the whole head. You will be able to select particular features from masterworks for your study.\n\n\n\nThe next two days will be dedicated to painting complete portraits from a live model. These will be Alla Prima head paintings from life (one portrait painting per day). Students will learn how to capture the likeness of the model through methods such as Comparative Measuring and conceptual form rendering. Emphasis will also be placed on “sculpting” the portrait through paint strokes in a way that creates a realistic three-dimensional illusion. Realistic light effects, value relationships, rhythmic gesturesand accurate drawings will also be discussed in this workshop. This all ensures that the portrait painting is as true to the model as possible. Lastly, students will learn the basics of analyzing and solving common portrait painting issues, and gain more confidence in their abilities to advance future paintings on their own after the workshop is over.\n\n\n\nThrough portrait demonstrations at the beginning of each day, lectures on various concepts and useful tools, and individual feedback, all information covered in this class will be thoroughly explained so that each person will meet their personal goals. All levels are welcome, although some experience in oils and portraiture is encouraged. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Sandra Sanchez:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n        Sandra Sanchez is a contemporary portrait artist from Los Angeles County and is currently based in Orange County, California. Ever since visiting the Getty Museum as a young teenager and browsing various art history books pertaining to the renaissance era and beyond, she wanted to develop art skills. She sought out schools that could help her reach her goals of learning how to oil paint at a high level. Immediately upon graduating high school, she relocated across the country to immerse herself in classical fine art training at the Grand Central Atelier in New York City, and graduated in 2017.\n\n\n\nShe is constantly compelled to recreate the humanity of her subjects through the use of sensitive colors, fluid rhythms, a naturalistic drawing and identifying nuanced expressions for a strong visual impact. The spirit and energy of the model flows through her drawings and paintings. Sandra is a member of the Salmagundi Club in New York City, as well as a recipient of the Anders Larson-Toich Fund Scholarship, the Alma Schapiro Fund Scholarship and the Neil Patterson Award of Excellence. She is also a three-time participant of the Hudson River Fellowship in upstate New York, and has been featured in  Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine.\n\n\n\nVisit her website at: https://www.ssanchezfineart.com/ ( https://www.ssanchezfineart.com/ )\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWorkshop Details\n\n\n\nClass size: Max 14 students. \n\n\n\nCost: $650 for Portrait Society of Atlanta members or $725 for non-members.
